Keeping up with the Jonesses
I caught up with an old friend today .... and she told me that her parents have just gone bankrupt. The bank has repossessed her parents' houses, company and cars ... just because they could not meet the repayments, due to mismanagement of money.
Today also ... Kanye West, there were articles written on him which mentioned that he has a lot of debt.
He might be serious .. but he might not be serious ...
How does it relate to my way of saving money exactly?
I wear plain, inexpensive and non fashionable clothes and accessories.
People definitely look down on me, at times and most especially when I stand next to other people with better clothes, bags and shoes.
But ...
Warren Buffet always said,
"Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked."
That and my goal ...
made me stick to my goal - to save as much money as possible.
It did not mean that I don't face any challenges
It did not mean that I am not fazed by these challenges ...
One recent example,
On last Friday,
I had another gathering - barbecuing with friends.
This BBQ turned into another bragging opportunity ...
They bragged about their luxury cars, expensive holidays and expensive recent purchases.
Of course,
I felt more than a pang of jealousy.
Today ...
I feel grateful on my way of living - saving as much money as possible, shy-ing away from debt and building my own little nest egg which hopefully will grow into nice big eggs.
I do not know how many of them are using loans just to keep up with the Jonesses.
I will never know and I do not want to know.
What I know is ... I will not keep up with the Jonesses.
I will continue building my nest eggs ...
I will continue to be Kaizen Money Smart
